What is a U2Charist?

U2charists are regular church holy communion services that use U2 music rather than traditional hymns. It is not a U2 concert but U2 music is used to highlight the important themes of global reconciliation and the justice for the poor and the oppressed.

When and where did U2Charists begin?

The first U2charist was held in Baltimore in the United States in April 2004 and was formulated by by Sarah Dylan Breuer. Since then there have been U2charists in Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australia and the UK.

What is planned in Queensland?

The first U2charist in Queensland will be at Aspley-Albany Creek Anglican Church on April 28th at 6.30pm. The service will raise awareness for global and local charities. "We are using U2 songs to help people focus on the work we are called to do, not just globally but locally" Said Daniel Berris, Youth minister at the church and drummer in the tribute band.

Dave Andrews, writer and Christian community worker will be the guest speaker. The service will support the Anglican Board of Mission (ABM), Oxfam, Tear Australia. In addition the offerings will go to waiters union and Access Street Van, both charities particular to Brisbane.
