In this sermon we reflect on the expectations of John the Baptist and many Jews of the coming Messiah. John had preached about one coming who would be powerful and baptise with the Holy Spirit and with Fire. He seemed to imagine a very powerful fire that would rid Israel of the sin that distances the people from God. But what is evident with the wok Jesus is doing is an act of grace bringing healing, wholeness and salvation both for individuals and the people of God as a whole.
