CloseRev. Nicholas Whereat - Rector - 26/02/2023
Lent 1 and Thanksgiving Sunday
In this sermon we explore the story of the fall in Genesis and the story of the Temptation of Jesus in the wilderness in Matthew's Gospel. We notice the genres of these two stories and how that impacts our appreciation. We pay attention to the Spiritual Disciplines that Jesus is immersed in giving him the courage to say no to evil. And we are encouraged to reread Richard Foster's book the Celebration of Discipline. Using it as a guide to developing our own disciplines enabling us to embrace grace with joy. We suggest the capacity to say know to evil becomes easier and the capacity to celebrate life likewise becomes easier when we are grounded in the disciplines of faith.
